How is the piston position sensed in a Conforti servo hydraulic cylinder?

TD / TK / TH / TX / TP servo cylinders are fitted with a contactless absolute linear position transducer based on the magnetostrictive principle. The transducer determines the rod position using a magnetic field without mechanical contact, so there is no wear and the measuring system has a long service life. The output is analogue (0–10 V or 4–20 mA) or digital — SSI, CANbus, DeviceNet, Profibus, EtherCAT®, EtherNet/IP™, PROFINET or POWERLINK.

What is the difference between the TD/TK, TH/TX and TP series?

All series share the same magnetostrictive position transducer; they differ in their construction, pressure and bore range. TD/TK are tie-rod cylinders to ISO 6020/2 up to 160 bar (TD Ø 40–100, TK Ø 125–200). TH/TX are flange cylinders to ISO 6020/2 up to 210 bar. TP is a heavy-duty series to ISO 6022 up to 250 bar for bores Ø 50–200 mm.

Which transducer output signal should I choose — MV, MA, MS or MD?

MV is the analogue 0–10 V output for a PLC with a voltage input. MA is the 4–20 mA current output, more resistant to interference over longer distances. MS is the digital SSI output with a 0.1 μm resolution for high accuracy. MD covers the industrial fieldbuses CANbus, EtherCAT®, PROFINET and POWERLINK for integration into modern control systems. The output code is written right after the series designation, for example TH MV 50 / 36 A.

Are the TD/TK and TH/TX servo cylinders interchangeable with the standard CD/DK and HD/HK cylinders?

Yes. TD/TK have the same technical specifications, dimensions and mountings as the CD/DK tie-rod cylinders, while TH/TX correspond to the HD/HK flange cylinders. They differ only in the integrated magnetostrictive position transducer and the requirement for low-friction seals. Upgrading to the servo version therefore needs no rebuild of the installation.

Which seals are available for servo cylinders?

Servo cylinders are supplied with low-friction PTFE seals (L) as standard, which minimise stick-slip during both slow and fast motion. For high temperatures and phosphate esters a Viton® version (H) is available, and for HFC water emulsions the G version. The standard polyurethane S seal used on ordinary cylinders is not offered for the servo series.

How do I choose the most suitable Conforti servo hydraulic cylinder?

In which applications are Conforti servo hydraulic cylinders used?

TD / TK / TH / TX / TP servo cylinders are used wherever precise positioning with continuous feedback is required — CNC machines, robotics, hydraulic presses with position control, and automation or positioning lines. The magnetostrictive transducer provides the absolute position with no need for a reference run (homing) after power-up.

What are the integrated CETOP plates on servo cylinders for?

Integrated CETOP plates allow valves and servo valves to ISO 4401 to be mounted directly on the cylinder. This reduces the oil volume between the valve and the actuator, speeds up the response and simplifies closed-loop position control — particularly beneficial in dynamic servo applications.

Why does the Conforti servo cylinder have a removable steel transducer cover?

A removable steel cover protects the sensitive external parts of the magnetostrictive transducer. It prevents impact damage to the transducer during transport, installation and operation while still allowing easy service access. The contactless principle of the transducer also means no mechanical wear and a long service life.

All servo series share the same magnetostrictive position transducer. They differ in construction and pressure: TD/TK are tie-rod (160 bar), TH/TX are flange (210 bar) and TP is heavy-duty ISO 6022 (250 bar) for the most demanding duty.
